My company recently discovered it has a need to host our own conference bridges. Up till now, we've been able to do that with our legacy end office equipment. Now that we are migrating to a new vendor/equipment, we no longer have this capability.
I opened my big mouth and suggested that we try out Asterisk (open source pbx.) My boss and his boss liked the idea, and now I'm in the process of building up a total of 4 production pc's and one test pc.
I've got to admit, this is working out pretty well. Another issue with the legacy equipment going away is that we used to be able to call forward a set number (our 'on-call' number) in each market to the on-call technician for that site. The new equipment doesn't have a very user friendly way to make this happen. I've been experimenting with a custom web interface to handle the call forwarding and some other admin things.
This is my first project with PHP, it's been a fun learning experience.
